Food packaging manufacturer World Centric has unveiled a 100% plant-based compostable pizza container for delivery restaurants.
Called PizzaRound, the box is said to reduce packaging waste as well as grease and sogginess which can occur with traditional cardboard pizza boxes.
World Centric said that the box supports restaurants’ efforts to minimise their environmental impact as it’s made from 80% sugarcane and 20% bamboo.
The PizzaRound features built-in grease grooves as well as raised dimples that are said to maintain crispness. It can be placed into an oven for reheating products and has a removable top that doubles as a server and dish.
World Centric senior vice president of sales Mark Stephany said: “Our focus for the past 14 years has been to help the foodservice industry reduce waste and improve its stewardship of the earth.
“Our new PizzaRound not only continues that initiative but also provides true functional innovations that make it possible to deliver a great quality pizza from the oven to the customer’s house.”
Glenn Cybulski, who consulted World Centric on the PizzaRound design and tested its performance, said: “The PizzaRound is the future of pizza boxes. Takeout and delivery pizzas can now be hotter, crisper and free of the cardboard taste that often transfers to the pie in paper containers.”
The box expands World Centric’s line of plates, utensils, cups and other plant-based and compostable foodservice ware available in the US and Canada.
