Yogurt brand Yoplait is looking to reinvigorate its product line with a new brand of whipped Greek yogurt mousse under the name ‘Greek 100 Whips!’
The 100 represents the number of calories in this new light option from the General Mills-owned brand. The yogurt will initially come in eight different flavours including black cherry, strawberry cheesecake and lemon meringue, and will contain 9g of protein per container.
The launch coincides with Yoplait extending the flavour range of the original Greek 100 brand to include coconut, honey, banana caramel and orange crème flavours, as well as the addition of caramel and ‘cookies ‘n’ cream’ varieties of Yoplait original.
The company is using the portfolio of new Greek-style yogurts to help improve its previously poor sales performance and reinvigorate its product range. Yoplait represents more than 12% of General Mills’ retail sales and has about 24% of the US yogurt market, although this has fallen 10% since 2008. Its sales improved by 1% in the third quarter of 2014 after dropping 12.5% over the previous three years.
