Marco Polo Intercontinental has brought a new product to the European market – beverage bottles made 100% from plants.
Originating from the Aleenta Resort and Spa in Southeast Asia, one of a new breed of eco-resorts, the Aleenta makes a clear commitment to sustainable practices and behaviours. This bottle is made from polylactic acid (PLA), not from oil as PET plastic bottles are. The manufacturing process produces 60% less greenhouse gas and uses 50% less fossil fuel than standard PET manufacturing plants, which is good for the environment. Even more fundamental is the fact that 100% of the bottle’s material comes from plants such as corn and sugar beet. This cuts out the use of oil – a finite fossil fuel – as a raw material, which is used in the manufacturing of PET plastic bottles.
Not only is this bottle fully biodegradable, it is also kind to its contents. Unlike most other plastic bottles, this bottle doesn’t leach potentially harmful chemicals into its contents as there are no chemicals present within the bottle to leach through.
The bottles were first launched to the European market containing natural mineral water under the brand name Eco for Life, with Key Brands International appointed as their distributors.
Key Brands International said: “From the word go, we knew that we were dealing with such a hugely influential product which will change the way that people view their everyday commitment to healthy living. By changing to our product when buying bottled water, consumers show that they are serious about how they treat their bodies. This change is not only good for consumers’ health but is also a step in the right direction with regard to saving the planet – a growing concern throughout the world’s population. We are very proud to be associated with Eco for Life and to have been chosen as the distributors.”
Eco for Life is available either as still mineral water bottled in the South Downs or still spring water bottled in the New Forest. Both varieties are low in sodium and have a neutral pH value.
Eco for Life can be found in Virgin Atlantic Airways Clubhouses; it is listed with Bidvest and Health Stores (Wholesale) and can also be found in numerous health stores, farm shops, yoga salons and garden centres throughout the South of England. The distributors are in talks with the European leader in international rail travel, along with several other major airlines; there is also conversations with Local Authorities and County Councils, which are keen to be seen doing their bit to provide the best for people under their care at schools, hospitals, and retirement homes, all of which are major sectors of the population. The armed forces are another sector where this product will enhance the lives of our fantastic service personnel, including the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, which has shown great interest and enthusiasm for this product.
These 100% plant bottles are available in several sizes, either under the Eco for Life brand or your own bespoke brand, to fill with your own beverages, waters and so on. The bottles have undergone stringent testing and conform to current European Food Contact Regulation – EU number 10/2011 – for a variety of liquids such as water, milk products and fruit pulps.
