In the United States, PepsiCo Inc is to extend its partnership with SodaStream, offering SodaStream caps to make 50c servings of Pepsi and Sierra Mist. The development follows a small retail test in Florida last October.
The caps will be available on SodaStream’s website and 50 Bed Bath & Beyond Inc outlets in US. The price of the 4-cap pack will be $3.49, while the yet to be released new SodaStream ‘Mix’ and Sodastream ‘Ultimate’ machines will cost between $80 to $200.
Meanwhile, The Coca-Cola Company is continuing with its partnership with Keurig Green Mountain’s yet to be launched Keurig Kold platform. Unlike the SodaStream machines, Keurig Kold does not need carbon-dioxide cylinders .The ‘Kold’ machine will cost around $300 and the pods, with 8oz servings, will cost around $1.
In a statement, PepsiCo said it is ‘exploring multiple technologies in this area and SodaStream is one of several companies we’re talking to about potential ideas.’
Coca-Cola has already invested heavily in Keurig’s Kold system, so it would not be unreasonable to think PepsiCo might consider investing in SodaStream’s response, the SodaStream Ultimate.
