Bean Bags – an innovative brand of pyramid coffee bags – will be the first to market when it rolls out across Waitrose stores in the UK today.
The range, inspired by the simplicity and popularity of teabags, claimed that it was ‘set to revolutionise the filter coffee market’. There are three initial variants: a Colombian and Guatemalan breakfast blend, a ‘rich and fruity’ El Salvador blend, and a ‘smooth and creamy’ decaffeinated coffee.
The one-cup, single-serve offering is packed in boxes of ten pyramid bags each. Producing ‘less mess, less fuss and less waste’, as the bags are biodegradable, each pyramid bag is packed with 12g of coffee grounds for a stronger flavour.
Consumers simply pour boiling water over one of the bags, squeeze, brew for three minutes, and squeeze again before consuming.
The pyramid bags will retail at a price of £4.50 for a box of ten bags.
Raw Bean founder Alex Cox said: “Bean Bags are an excellent solution for coffee drinkers who are looking for convenience without compromising on quality. Not only to simplify the daily morning coffee at home experience, but also for the occasions that fresh, quality coffee is not always readily available – at the remote Airbnb or cottage rental; on the road in the campervan; at soft play or kids’ parties; on boat, fishing, camping or hiking trips… with Bean Bags, there’s no mess, no equipment required, and no need to resort to drinking instant or insipid coffee.
“As a quality filter coffee option, Bean Bags will mostly appeal to cafetiere users, but may also attract single-serve pod users concerned about the growing waste issue. Bean Bags are biodegradable so there’s no longer an excuse for adding to landfill in the name of enjoying a quick, easy and flavourful cup of coffee.”
It’s less than a year since the founder of Yum Cha cordial-style iced teas, Guy Woodall, launched a new tea in a canister. Consumers add boiling water and milk to the canned tea, called No More Tea Bags, which later went viral.
As well as its convenience benefits, which, like Bean Bags, includes camping trips and outdoor adventures, Woodall said that No More Tea Bags utilised a revolutionary technology that unlocks ‘a far superior’ tasting tea to that brewed with a conventional teabag.
