UK start-up MightyBee is launching a range of solar-dried vegan banana bars called Bananito.
Going on sale in spring, the line will be available in three flavours: original and chewy, dark chocolate dipped, and dark chocolate and almond crush.
The bananas used to make the bars are grown in a chemical-free environment and picked only when they are ripe, allowing MightyBee to get the fruits at optimum nutrient level.
The Bananito bars are coated in Belgian dark chocolate and almonds.
In a statement, MightyBee said: “Solar dried entails a solar dome in which the bananas are dried for two weeks, as the moisture is gently and gradually wicked away. It is a process that was developed by young physicists and engineers at the Silpakorn University with support of the Thai Research Fund.
“It takes electricity out of the process, allowing for a more sustainable method of production and a soft and chewy banana snack, as opposed to the hard and frosty banana products on the market.”
The bars will be sold in the UK in Ocado and Wholefoods.
