Sweden-based meat alternative brand Oumph has secured its first UK retail listing with major supermarket Tesco.
Three of the brand’s soy-based meat substitutes will go on sale in 400 Tesco stores across the UK: a pulled pork alternative, seasoned Kebab style strips and an unseasoned chicken alternative.
Oumph products are made from a mix of soya beans and a mix of organic herbs and spices. Each product is free from gluten, dairy and nuts, and are high in protein.
Oumph was created by Swedish company Food for Progress in order to respond to growing consumer appetites for plant-based meat alternatives.
Anders Wallerman, co-founder and CEO at Food for Progress, the owner of Oumph said: “We are looking forward to launching in Tesco.
“Tesco is the perfect partner for us in this, not only because of their size, but also because they have already put themselves in the forefront of this category amongst the UK retailers – by for example hiring a Director of plant-based innovation and a general focus on both sustainable and tasty products.
“In Scandinavia Oumph! has helped increase a flow of new consumers to try plant-based food, and we’d like for Oumph! to create the same impact in the UK”.
All products in the range are now available in Tesco stores in 280g packets, with a suggested retail price of £3.49.
