Cookery school and Asian cooking brand School of Wok is launching into grocery retail with the “UK’s first bao bun kit range”.
The meal kits, which come in black pepper and barbecue variants, have been introduced into over 300 Tesco stores as the brand aims to expand in the oriental food category.
Each bao bun kit, which serves two and makes between four and six buns, comes with a flour mix, pickling salts, dry rub and glaze, along with step-by-step instructions on how to create a fluffy bao.
Consumers just need to add the fresh ingredients along the way, to create filled bao rolls in around 30 minutes.
Founded in 2009 by TV chef and author Jeremy Pang, School of Wok aims to make Asian cooking more accessible with a brand which focuses on putting the fun into education. With a cookery school and wok range, it is now aiming to emulate its success in grocery retail.
Pang said: “At School of Wok we’ve become known as the UK’s Asian cookery hub and we believe the time is now right for us to bring our flair for demystifying oriental cookery into the grocery sector.
“With this first launch, we’ve focused on a key trend in the thriving Asian restaurant sector, the bao bun, to bring something completely new to the supermarket aisles.
“With our vibrant packaging, unique product offering and focus on fun, we believe we’re well placed to drive consumer engagement in the category and look forward to our nationwide roll-out with Tesco.”
