US mustard brand French’s will launch a new chilled range of high quality hot dogs in the UK this month. The French’s Hot Dog has been produced by Smithfield Foods, the world’s largest pork producer.
French’s Hot Dogs will be the latest addition to the brand’s extensive range of mustard, relishes, sauces and salad dressings.
“Our research showed that French’s is trusted by hot dog consumers, making it the perfect partner for a naturally beechwood-smoked hot dog with no artificial colours or flavours,” said Smithfield Foods category manager Jill Leigh.
The French’s Hot Dog will be available in two sizes, Classic (35g) and Jumbo (90g). The Classic Hot Dog will come in a pack of 10, divided into five ‘tear-and-go’ pouches of two, with portion control and convenience being at the forefront of the packaging design specifications. The Jumbo Hot Dog packs will contain four individually sealed Hot Dogs. Neither variant contains any artificial colours or flavours and is, according to a company statement, made up of ‘more meat than the current hot dog market leader’.
“French’s remains at the forefront of the American food trend currently sweeping the UK,” said French’s spokesperson Amy Woodbridge. “The addition of the Classic and Jumbo Hot Dogs to our already strong portfolio of condiments and toppings only solidifies our presence within the marketplace, and provides consumers a delicious base to create their ideal hot dog.
“Our decision to place the product with the UK’s largest retailers is rooted in our dedication to giving the French’s customer access to the American-style products they love at an affordable price point.”
French’s will be running a £1m marketing campaign with The Discovery Channel to support the launch of the new Hot Dogs. The initiative will run from November 2014, with the aim of reaching 18% of UK adults.
Available in Asda stores from 13 October onwards. RRP is £2.50 for the Jumbo Hot Dogs (pack of four) and £2 for the Classic Hot Dogs (pack of 10).
