Baby food start-up Mia & Ben has received £2.5 million in funding from venture capital firm Blue Horizon Ventures.
Mia & Ben’s range of baby food pouches include fresh, natural ingredients which are preserved using high-pressure processing (HPP) instead of heat to retain natural vitamins, colour and taste.
The company claims that its aim is to “revolutionise the kids’ food category” by utilising new research and technology to create fresh and nutritious baby food products.
The start-up had secured listings for its range of ‘superfood’ baby food pouches from UK retailers including Sainsbury’s, Ocado and Abel & Cole, as well as Dunnes Stores in the Republic of Ireland.
Blue Horizon Ventures’ managing partner, Michael Kleindl, says: “We invest in entrepreneurs that are looking to disrupt their segment by launching healthy, plant-based and sustainable food.
“In Mia & Ben, we saw a company offering a product that is fresh, nutritious and offers parents a healthier alternative to traditional kids’ food. And has the option to develop into a category winner.”
Daniel Auner, co-founder of Mia & Ben, added: “We want all parents to have the option to feed healthy, fresher, tastier food to their kids.
“Having an investment partner like Blue Horizon Ventures will enable us to revolutionise the kids’ food category by utilising the latest in cutting-edge food science and the best ingredients we can find.”
