A Ferrero-related company has announced that it will acquire Burton’s Biscuit Company from Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board.
The acquisition – for an undisclosed sum – will add to the Italian confectioner’s growing biscuit portfolio. Ferrero also acquired Fox’s in 2020.
Burton’s, which generated sales of more than £275 million in the past year, produces popular brands in the UK such as Maryland Cookies, Jammie Dodgers, Wagon Wheels, Paterson’s and Thomas Fudge’s.
The transaction will see the company take over six production facilities in the UK, based in Blackpool, Dorset, Edinburgh, Livingston, Llantarnam and Isle of Arran.
Ontario Teachers’ acquired Burton’s in 2013 and helped grow the business “through continued investment across the branded, retailer brand and third-party global brand portfolios, in addition to organic initiatives and bolt-on acquisitions,” a statement from the company said.
