Either we’re big kids who want a more sophisticated version of our childhood treats, or we’re so into our gourmet foods that even the ice creams of our teens are being recreated with botanicals and alcohol.
Under the Patchwork brand, there’s a range of ‘Ice Cream for Grown Ups’. The handmade ice cream range is made with cream, milk, raw cane sugar and egg yolks. Three of the range has alcohol-soaked fruits, creating flavour combinations such as apple & calvados and tequila & cranberry.
Like all of Patchwork’s products, the Ice Cream for Grown Ups is made with no additives, stabilisers or preservatives.
Meanwhile, Brighton-based artisan gelateria Gelato Gusto has received three awards from the Great Taste Awards 2014. Three stars were awarded for its black truffle and honey gelato, two stars for its lychee & rose sorbetto and one star for its pear & parmesan sorbetto.
As one of only 125 out of 10,000 entries to be awarded the prestigious 3-Star Award, Gelato Gusto owner Jon Adams said: “We are delighted to receive such a highly sought after and well respected seal of approval. It is an honour to have our hard work so well received and recognised. The Great Taste Awards are the food industry equivalent to the BAFTAs!”
And if slushies are your thing, Tesco’s Retro Slushie Beverage Station is great for parties and long, hot summer days. Of course, you can’t make alcoholic lollies, because alcohol doesn’t freeze, but you can make concoctions of alcoholic or non-alcoholic slushie drinks or snow cones. The Slushie Beverage Station comes with two ice-shaving options for finer or coarser ice texture.
Who said being grown up isn’t fun?
