Pact Coffee, the fresh coffee delivery service, has today launched a Kickstarter campaign to gather funds for the development of a Nespresso-compatible coffee pod.
The pods, which have been in development for nearly 18 months, are almost ready to take to market and Kickstarter backers will be the first to sample them if they pledge. Everything from the specific roast profiles, to individually selected grind sizes and distributions, have been closely analysed to achieve the perfect extraction in the cup. Only Pact’s top grade speciality coffee will be used in the pods and they will be made of fully recyclable components.
The pods, available as long or short, will be sent through the post in packaging that will fit through a letterbox and are covered by Pact’s seven-day freshness guarantee.
After less than 24 hours, the company had raised almost half of the £20,000 in funding that it had initially sought.
Pact Coffee founder and CEO Stephen Rapoport said: “We have poured our heart and soul into producing a pod that we’re really delighted by and that we’d be happy to put our name on. With the help of the Kickstarter community we will get our first production run complete and get these pods into people’s hands.”
The company’s head of coffee, Will Corby, added: “If we can introduce more coffee lovers to speciality coffee, we’ll get more income into the hands of producers at origin, and less into the hands of middlemen. One in five households in the UK now have a pod machine but most of the pods on the market are disappointing and don’t use speciality-grade coffee. Our pods will offer both quality and convenience and drive forward our mission to make coffee a force for good by paying farmers really well for the best quality beans.”
The recommended retail price of the pods will be £14.95 for a box of 40.
