Independent tea company We Are Tea has launched a range of ethically sourced teas, from reusable loose-leaf tea caddies to pyramid whole-leaf teabags.
The range includes different varieties of black, oolong, green, white and infusion teas, available in the UK from retailers including Tesco and Ocado. The London-based company hopes to be able to “break down the barriers to speciality tea and demystify the often over-complicated world of whole-leaf tea” to British consumers, who each consume around 265 litres of the UK’s national beverage every year.
The company is equally passionate about ethical sourcing and is always innovating, from creating tea cocktails for the menus of London’s leading bars to creating a new bespoke blend for its charity partner, Contact the Elderly.
The full range of teas available from We Are Tea cover six different categories:
Black tea – the UK’s most popular type of tea has a higher caffeine content and depth of flavour than others, with the leaves left in warm air to wither for up to 18 hours before they are rolled and then fired for maximum flavour. We Are Tea’s blends include English breakfast, Earl Grey supreme, Ceylon, Assam, Darjeeling, Keemun Gong Fu, Rose Gong Fu and Yunnan gold teas.
Oolong tea – smooth, complex and mysterious, the leaves of oolong teas are withered in the sun outdoors, then indoors on bamboo baskets before they are shaken every few hours to break cells and release the flavour before being fired. Blends are yellow gold oolong and monkey-picked.
Green tea – light, bright and beautiful, these are high in antioxidants and low in caffeine. Blends include Moroccan mint, gunpowder supreme and dragon well.
White tea – these teas are produced on a very limited scale, the young buds plucked at daybreak while they are unopened and carefully harvested and processed for a deliciously delicate flavour. Blends consist of white peony, rose white peony, silver needle and jasmine silver needle.
Infusion tea – diverse, comforting and exotic, herbal and fruit infusions, while not technically teas at all, are naturally caffeine-free, and packed with both flavour and health benefits. Blends include super berry, peppermint leaf, and rooibos and honeybush.
Super tea – this unique and functional range acts as an antidote to common ailments associated with modern life. Blends reflect each tea’s functional properties: Daintea, Revitealise, Serenitea and Activitea.
