British distiller Silent Pool has developed a new gin in celebration of a naval figure, destined primarily for the Swedish market.
Admiral Collingwood Navy Strength gin is named after Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood, who played “a pivotal role” in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The yet-to-be-commercialised gin has an ABV of 57% and is packaged in 50cl bottles. It complements Surrey-based Silent Pool’s existing collection of hand-crafted artisan spirits.
The bottle features a “unique label” from Royston Labels, printed on one of the company’s combination printing presses using ten colours and high-quality UV flexo label printing to achieve the detail that the imagery required. Incorporating a high metallised look in different colours, the label features a distinctive and unique embossed textured finish on a synthetic substrate to create the look and feel of parchment paper, in keeping with the historical and distinguished style of the design, Royston Labels explained.
Royston Labels technical manager Phil Bradnam said: “When the day came to produce the label, the whole process ran very smoothly with just a few ‘tweaks’ required here and there. As a result of our ongoing development and continual innovation, we used a new embossed textured finish on a synthetic substrate to really make the label stand-out; it was something we hadn’t attempted before on a self-adhesive label, but it worked well and we are delighted with the result.
“It has been great to work with the team at Silent Pool. This particular journey really has been pleasant and challenging in a good way, and we look forward to new and exciting projects in the future.”
Silent Pool co-founder Ian McCulloch said: “Royston Labels were able to provide expert support that enabled us to translate an innovative and eye-catching design into a practical label that can be easily applied. The production team ensured that we were able to access the latest print technology and that in turn enabled us to really push the design.
“Royston Labels have been patient, responsive and have beaten all of the deadlines we gave them; we definitely see this as the start of a longer relationship.”
