Wine company Les Grands Chais de France has announced plans to launch a new range of quality wines for the UK on-trade channel, after completing the acquisition of Château Belles Eaux winery.
The château and vineyards are located in the Hérault region of southern France. The acquisition is in line with the group’s strategy of investment in high-quality French vineyards and wineries in six key French regions, including the south of France. Les Grands Chais de France currently owns just under 40 such properties covering some 1,790 hectares of vineyards in total, the company revealed.
The Belles Eaux estate, which dates back to the 17th Century, comprises 67 hectares of vines, grown on clay-limestone hillsides. The wines of Château Belles Eaux are well respected both in France and in export markets, the group added, as they are excellent examples of indigenous grape varieties that express the regional terroir.
Chris Davies, UK Director GCF Exclusif, part of Les Grands Chais de France, said: “We are really pleased with this prestigious addition to our portfolio of top-quality châteaux and domaines. The new range of wines includes the denominations AOP Languedoc-Pézenas, AOP Languedoc and IGP Pays d’Oc. Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre are used more in the production of AOP Languedoc; and Chardonnay and Petit Verdot are mainly used for IGP Pays d’Oc. We believe that these typically Languedoc-style wines will have distinct appeal to our customers.”
