British brand Cotchel has launched a new apple and pear juice line using fruit which is too big, too small or too ugly to be sold.
Founded by third generation farmer Pete Thompson, Cotchel is on a mission to reduce food waste and use all the fruit it grows on its farm, no matter what it looks like.
The range is made with apples and pears grown, pressed and bottled on a family farm in Essex and available in four variants: Braeburn; Opal; Topaz and Evelina; and Conference, Topaz and Evelina.
Pete Thompson said: “Every year tonnes of fruit is wasted around the country because it’s too big, too small or too ugly to be sold. Instead of letting the unwanted fruit from our farm be wasted or processed off the farm, we decided to turn it into something delicious.
“Cotchel is all about creating a great-tasting fruit juice using fruit we can’t sell and taking small steps towards reducing food waste.”
Cotchel apple juice was previously called Tendring Fruit and has been available in a handful of farm shops and independent retailers in East Essex.
The range is now available in selected retailers in south-east England.
