Berlin Packaging has reached a deal to acquire UK-based supplier of closures and packaging equipment Erben as it targets expansion in the beverage industry.
Erben has operations in South Africa and in the US with its California Capsules business. Berlin aims to boost its geographic coverage with the addition of multiple warehouses in the UK and South Africa. It will also acquire a UK quality lab, attuned to helping increase sales and profitability for customers.
Ipswich-based Erben also produces glass containers, corks, sparkling wine foils and kegs.
With the completed acquisition, Berlin will have offices in Italy, France, Spain, UK, to go alongside locations in South Africa, China, and across North America.
The move complements Berlin acquisition Bruni Glass, a supplier of premium and speciality glass containers and accessories. In 2015, it bought Ohio-based supplier of rigid packaging Vivid.
Berlin Packaging is a $2.6 billion global supplier of rigid packaging products. The company has a stronghold in North America, where it has operated since 1898, and also has a European headquarters in Milan, Italy.
Andrew Berlin, Berlin Packaging CEO, said: “Sasha Erben leads an extraordinary company that not only shares our focus on quality, service, and results for customers, but also has a culture that delights in serving and growing powerfully in the marketplace.
“Adding Erben to the Berlin enterprise shows our commitment to acquire the best businesses in the packaging industry along with our proven approach to organic growth.”
