Manufacturer of cannabis-infused beverages BevCanna Enterprises has acquired Carmanah Craft in a move to expand its cannabis genetics programme.
According to BevCanna, it completed the purchase of all the issued and outstanding securities of Carmanah, as well as its business.
The acquisition will give BevCanna access to Carmanah’s extensive portfolio of cannabis genetics including 50 cannabis strains and over 25 types of cannabis seeds.
A large portion of Carmanah’s genetics are outdoor-specific strains that originated in California. Due to boasting a similar climatic zone to BevCanna’s outdoor cultivation site in the Okanagan Valley, “the deal will dramatically increase its overall cannabis yield projections,” according to Joey Bedard-Brunet, head of cultivation at BevCanna.
Within the library of genetics, many are anticipated at 2kg+ of yield per plant. The addition of six auto flower seed varieties means the harvest times will start earlier allowing for more organised final processing.
John Campbell, BevCanna’s chief strategy officer, said: “Together with the recently announced increase in our outdoor cannabis cultivable land to almost 300 acres, the acquisition of Carmanah’s proven outdoor genetics will allow BevCanna to develop into one of the largest outdoor cannabis cultivators in Canada.”
BevCanna develops and manufactures cannabinoid-infused beverages and consumer products for in-house brands and white label clients. Last August, the Canada-headquartered company lined up the launch of a range of cannabis-infused iced teas.
