By December 2010, the company hopes to remove 5,000 tonnes of packaging from its range and complete an rPET trial using UK-only recycled content.
Britvic has switched to returnable pallets that are used to display goods in store, resulting in a saving of approximately 70 tonnes of corrugated board and 89 tonnes of shrinkwrap in the past year. The company has also begun a lightweighting programme across its packaging. For example, it has removed 4g of plastic from its Drench water bottles, representing a reduction of over 17% in bottle packaging.
Britvic has also adopted the Recycle Now logo across its portfolio, to indicate to shoppers what can be recycled. The company has also reduced the amount of waste it sends to landfill by 13.8% in the past year, while recycling of waste has increased 57.3% since 2007.
