Burger King has created a limited-edition halloween burger called the Nightmare King, which it claims is clinically proven to induce nightmares.
The burger contains flame-grilled beef, a crispy chicken fillet, melted American cheese bacon, mayonnaise, and onions in a glazed green sesame seed bun.
A study conducted by the burger brand, Paramount Trials and Florida Sleep & Neuro Diagnostic Services, and Goldforest reviewed the sleep of 100 participants over 10 nights, and tracked their heart rate, brain activity and breath.
The study found that the combination of proteins and cheese in the Nightmare King led to an interruption of the subjects’ REM (Rapid Eye Movement) cycles, the sleep period during which we experience the majority of our dreams.
Dr Jose Gabriel Medina, a specialized somnologist and the study’s lead doctor said: “According to previous studies, 4% of the population experiences nightmares in any given night.
“But, after eating the Nightmare King, the data obtained from the study indicated that the incidence of nightmares increased by 3.5 times.”
The Nightmare King will be available for a limited time from US Burger King stores from October 22, with a recommended price of $6.39.
