The declaration comes only a matter of days after the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) CEF Panel concluded that they could not find evidence that there was any need to review the ‘tolerable daily intake’ for BPA.
Canada’s Environment Minister, the Honourable Jim Prentice, said: “The Government of Canada is taking a comprehensive approach to managing risks associated with bisphenol-A and this latest step addresses industrial use of the chemical in Canada. The proposed rules will require facilities to develop and implement plans to limit releases of BPA to the environment and to submit ongoing progress reports to the Government of Canada.”
France and Denmark have banned BPA for use in food and beverage products for infants.
