One company emerging as a contender to changing this situation is US-based Viz Enterprises. The company has made inroads with Vizcap, the company’s innovative dosing and dispensing bottle cap solution. Vizcap has recently been granted a US patent – an important step towards successfully licensing the technology to potential drink-producing customers.
The Vizcap offers manufacturers of functional beverages the ability to deliver consumer convenience for fresher, more potent beverages.
“The worldwide interest in Vizcap isn’t surprising,” says Robert Berman, CEO of Viz Enterprises. “Every manufacturer of any type of beverage knows that most vitamins and other nutrients are highly sensitive and lose potency the moment they’re mixed with a liquid. And the longer it sits, the less efficacious it becomes.”
Vizcap solves this problem by storing liquid or powder nutrients in its oxygen and moisture-restricted chamber, keeping the ingredients potent until the consumer releases them into the contents of a bottle.
“Nobody can get a patent on the overall concept of a dispensing cap,” says Berman. “Individual patents in the space cover the way that the dosing cap accomplishes its task. We provided all of the dosing caps that we could find to the patent office and they decided that the Vizcap is different enough from the others to justify our own patent. The Vizcap is intuitive for the customer, looks great and can be produced for a reasonable price.”
According to its patent owners, Vizcap has many characteristics that are highly appealing to consumers. The vitamins and nutrients are visible in a clear dome; as consumers release the fresh ingredients, the reaction with the liquid creates a fun, interactive experience; and consumers should feel more satisfied drinking a fresh, potent beverage.
The Vizcap was developed by Formation Design not only to be the most aesthetically pleasing, user-intuitive and flexible dosing and dispensing cap in the market, but one that could be seamlessly integrated into customers’ bottling lines. Viz claims it can be molded and manufactured to fit any size of bottle and handle large and small payloads.
“At this time, we license the Vizcap technology to our customers, who mould and manufacture the Vizcap to their own specifications,” adds Berman. “We’ve had overwhelming interest from our website, and word of mouth. We expect that Vizcapped drinks will first appear in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, where there’s been a lot of demand for our technology. Other regions will soon follow. Plenty of opportunities for licences still exist across Europe.”
