Casa Gancia has launched its portfolio of Italian sparkling wines and aperitifs in the UK, exactly 150 years after the production method for its Asti 24 cuvée was first commercialised.
The Piedmont-based winemaker has brought its Asti 24 cuvée, Pinot di Pinot brut and rosé, Alta Langa 36 and 60, and Vermouth bianco wines to the UK for the first time. It has also launched its Americano, a bitter red aperitif based on young white wines and a selection of herbs and spices.
The Italian producer introduced the drinks at a UK launch event in Mayfair, London, earlier this month.
A spokesperson for the brand said: “Known as the father of Italian sparkling wine, Carlo Gancia is responsible for producing the first sparkling wine (using the Moscato grape) made by metodo classico in Piedmont in 1850, after returning from studying in Champagne. After 15 years of trials and small batches, Gancia commercialised the method on a large scale in 1865. The wine is still produced to this day as Gancia’s Cuvée 24 Mesi Asti DOCG Metodo Classico. Aged for 24 months and due to the complexity of the process Gancia is the only winery producing this exceptional product.
“A pioneer in advertising and export since the 19th century, Gancia has become a legendary and respected Italian brand, available in over 65 foreign markets and now in the UK.”
