The installation of two new continuous ink jet printers has reaffirmed the long-standing relationship between confectionery manufacturer Thorntons and Linx, the UK-based printing technologies provider.
Thorntons has installed new Linx 7900s and 5900s machines to update previously installed Linx equipment. The machines are used to print up to three lines of information – including best before date, date and time packed, and a traceability code – onto printed boxes and paper outer labels at Thorntons’ Derbyshire manufacturing facility.
Among the machines’ benefits are a quick and simple code setup and control, low running costs and reduced production downtime.
With the machines in operation for at least 80 hours per week, coding up to 20,000 boxes per day per line, the new technologies from Linx are providing the reliability and flexibility to meet Thorntons’ needs across its branded and own-label ranges. Both machines use Linx 3103 non-MEK black mixed base ink, which offers a low odour ink that dries very quickly and adheres well. The use of a common ink minimises the amount of consumables across the Thorntons site, the printer manufacturer said.
Thorntons project manager Mark Campion further underlined the company’s reasons for choosing Linx, adding: “Linx is a long term partner of Thorntons and consistently delivers a premium service and reliable product. Linx continues to produce machines which meet those requirements at the right price, both in terms of the initial outlay and the ongoing low cost of ownership.”
