The paper reports that the complaints began at the beginning of the year and that Coca-Cola had requested that Nongfu Spring revise the design. However, Zhou Li, the press spokesman for Nongfu Spring is reported to have said that Coca-Cola’s claim had no legal substance, as Nongfu Spring already had a patent for the beverage’s packaging.
Zhou added that the Coca-Cola’s Vitamin Water is priced too high, and Victory Vitamin Water had been launched ‘to protect Chinese consumers’ rights’. A bottle of Victory Vitamin Water currently sells for 3.5 to 4 yuan, which is around one-third of the recommended price of a bottle of Glacéau Vitamin Water.
The head of The Coca-Cola Company’s public affairs and communications department is said to have told the paper that it will continue to communicate with Nongfu Spring, but would not engage in a law suit.
