Barcelona’s oldest cava producer is adding two premium cuvées to its existing portfolio to celebrate the company’s rich heritage.
Codorníu’s Cuvée Barcelona 1872 range commemorates the year in which the company produced its first bottle of cava, as well as the centenary of its Art Nouveau-style winery to the east of the city. The company itself can trace its history back to the sixteenth century.
Its Cuvée Barcelona 1872 blends high quality Macabeo, Xarello and Parellada grapes to produce a flavour described as “rich, fruity… with dominant notes of green apple, pear and citrus fruits combined with an attractive creamy texture”.
And Codorníu Cuvée Barcelona Rosado Brut is a rosado cava made using a blend of red cava grapes, “with dominant notes of red fruit and citrus combined with notes of brioche”. The grapes for both of these premium cavas are sourced from the Penedés region of Catalonia and aged in Codorníu’s cellars for at least nine months.
Carolyn d’Aguilar, brand manager for Bodegas y Viñedos Codorníu Raventós, said: “We’re committed to innovation and this kind of activity is an ideal way to add value to both the Codorníu brand and the Cava category.
“These beautifully designed bottles give the consumer a sense of Codorníu’s modernist spirit and really bring the heritage of the brand to life. We’re looking forward to seeing how Cuveé Barcelona is received by consumers.”
