From 7-Up to Sprite, there are already plenty of citrus CSDs in the market, with PepsiCo’s Mountain Dew leading the category – so it will be interesting to see how DPSG’s Sun Drop performs.
The idea for Sun Drop started in St Louis in 1949 when Charles Lazier began to think about citrus soda. He passed his idea – and recipe – to his son Charles Junior who created and launched Sun Drop in 1951. Sun Drop was acquired by Crush International in 1970. Crush was purchased by Procter & Gamble in 1980, which sold its soft drinks holdings to Cadbury Schweppes plc in 1989. Cadbury Schweppes plc demerged in 2008, with its beverages unit becoming Dr Pepper Snapple Group.
Sun Drop is currently available in original, diet, regular caffeine-free, diet caffeine free and cherry lemon flavours.
