EHL is launching a new Russian herb and spice blend in the run up to the 2018 Fifa World Cup tournament in Russia, as it anticipates a spike in consumer interest in foods from the country.
Bringing Russian flavours to British consumers, the new shashlik seasoning contains a blend of spices, chilli, paprika, nutmeg and ginger combined with rosemary and basil, creating a flavour profile which is said to be ideal for lamb, beef and chicken shashlik kebabs.
The blend can also be used on vegetables and meat replacement products for vegetarian and vegan options. Shashliks are often served with salad, pickled vegetables, beetroot or cucumber with dill, or soured cream dip and flatbreads.
EHL said its shashlik blend is “perfect for tasty summer meat dishes at barbecues, street food stalls, farmer’s markets, and in pubs and restaurants”.
Kath Davies, new product development manager at EHL Ingredients, said: “With the World Cup taking place in Russia this summer, we anticipate that there will be an interest in foods from this part of the world.
“Food manufacturers can tap into the sporting celebration by experimenting with Russian ingredients and flavours and create themed dishes for supermarket shelves and foodservice outlets using our new shashlik blend. Consumers are gearing up for the summer season, and with the warmer weather on its way, the nation will be dusting off barbecues.
“Pubs and diners would be wise to add a Russian dish to menus, while supermarkets can stock them in store, during the tournament over June and July, especially during screenings of games. Our new Russian blend will enhance the traditional classics, such as grilled meat and vegetable dishes, as well as adding authentic Russian flavours to the mix.
“We always go the extra mile to ensure that our ingredients are sourced from quality suppliers with full traceability to the country of origin, assuring our customers that the product they are getting is 100% authentic.”
As well as the new Russian shashlik seasoning, EHL stocks over 50 herb and spice blends from around the world, including vegan, organic and gluten-free variants.
