UK-based meat snack brand Ember has introduced two new high-protein biltong meat snacks in a ‘shot’ format for the UK market.
Packaged in 16g bags, the two snakes are available in original and chilli flavours, and both flavours contain 10g of protein per bag.
The brand claims the ‘shot’ format of the packs is a first for the jerky market, though the snacks will also be available in larger 30g packets.
The brand has secured UK retail listings from supermarkets Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Ocado, and the 16g packs will be available from Sainsbury’s stores from 8 April, Waitrose stores from 25 April and Ocado from 30 April.
Ember says that the brand only uses 100% Red Tractor Assured, British and Irish beef for the snacks, which are sugar- and gluten-free.
The Ember brand was founded by brothers Harry & Jack Mayhew, and in a statement they said: “We are on a mission to put meat snacks on the map as a natural, zero sugar, high protein snack.
“We know that this sector is ripe for exploding way beyond the male-dominated demographic that currently makes up the £40m category.
We want to reach these new consumers by offering a brand and range that’s not only consistent in terms of quality, consistency and flavour but continues to offer new and exciting products.
“Early sales from our webshop sees repurchase rates at over 60% and a 55/45 male female split – which is promising.
Our new Shots should help us continue to move towards our goal and we’ve been working hard to develop our new format that we think can totally change the eating experience of biltong and jerky.”
