Fairtrade nut company Liberation Foods has secured its first travel retail listing with an exclusive deal to supply airline EasyJet.
The company will start supplying a new 40g oven-baked salted cashew and peanut snack pack next month, in a deal brokered by retail consultant Gate Retail Onboard.
Partly farmer-owned, Liberation Foods sources its nuts from co-operatives of small-scale growers and farmers in developing economies such as Nicaragua, Malawi and India, who then share a 44% stake in the company.
Liberation Foods’ managing director, Kate Gaskell, said: “One of our key priorities for 2015 is to extend distribution of the Liberation brand beyond our current territory of Waitrose and independents – what better way to kick off the year than with the UK’s largest airline EasyJet and leading global travel provider Gate Retail Onboard? The farmers and I are thrilled to bits.”
Alex Goodwin, head of inflight retail for EasyJet, added: “We are pleased to offer the Liberation brand as part of our on board range. We continually look to offer our customers a choice of sustainable and healthy products to enjoy when travelling and so this fits the bill perfectly.”
