The Justin acquisition adds upscale wine to Roll International’s existing investments in bottled water, pomegranate juice and flowers. The Resnicks are already well into the agricultural sector. Stewart and Lynda Rae are the biggest growers of citrus, pomegranate, almonds and pistachios in the US.
So, that’s the wine, but what about the water?
On the day that Roll International-owned Fiji Water announced its short-lived plant closure, FijiToday raised an intriguing thought. Fiji Water owns SpringFresh Water, based in South Island, New Zealand. While Fiji Water is a registered brand name, it is not necessarily a source name and could therefore be bottled in New Zealand if this was acknowledged on the label. All one might need then would be a square bottle and some appropriate labels …
All speculation, of course, but on the eve of the factory reopening, FijiToday at first believed the threatened closure was a bluff to pressure the government to drop the tax, and said: “We are no longer confident that Fiji Water will continue as a Fiji product”.
Interestingly, though not surprisingly, the SpringFresh website currently features a competition to win a trip for two to Fiji.
