Branded cake and dessert supplier Johnstone’s Just Desserts has been sold to the Finsbury Food Group, after it was placed in administration.
The Scottish company’s administrator, FRP Advisory, has claimed that the acquisition would save 150 jobs at Johnstone’s production facility in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire. It had been seeking a buyer for the company, which produces branded cakes and desserts for UK coffee shops, since it entered administration in March.
Joint administrators Tom MacLennan and Geoff Rowley would remain at Johnstone’s until details of Finsbury’s acquisition were finalised.
MacLennan said: “We are delighted to have secured the sale of the Johnstone’s Just Desserts business to Finsbury Food Group, which is widely regarded as one of the UK’s most progressive and entrepreneurial food manufacturing businesses. This is a great result both in safeguarding the business, and importantly for securing all 150 jobs in food manufacturing. We wish the new owners Finsbury Food Group every success with their expansion plans.”
