Smoothie and fruit juice maker Get Juiced, seen as a rising star in the drinks industry, has established a brand identity with a presence in major supermarkets and some of Scotland’s most exclusive hotels, including Gleneagles and the Old Course Hotel, St Andrews.
The company was in a major growth phase involving significant cash burn when it went into liquidation this summer. However, provisional liquidator Donald McNaught of Johnston Carmichael hopes the company can be revived through a sale, and the opportunity has already proven to be of interest to a variety of buyers.
A buyer not only has the opportunity to secure the brand but also other business assets including a complete production line. McNaught has also been approached by an equity house interested in funding an acquisition.
The buyer would also reap the benefit of technology that employs an invention by scientists at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh. The invention uses microwaves to kill bacteria in the juice, extending shelf life to over six weeks with no loss of flavour or nutritional composition.
Get Juiced is the only company in the UK to use the technique, known as microwave volumetric liquid heating, in this space, which helped it to gain lucrative supermarket contracts and doubled its production.
