UK bottled water brand Highland Spring will trial a new plastic bottle in the UK which is made from 100% recycled plastic, a first for the UK bottled water category.
Available from Tesco stores in Scotland and Sainsbury’s stores in England from June, the 500ml eco bottle aims to keep plastic in the circular economy to reduce plastic waste levels.
The bottles will feature a label with green elements and a ‘100% recycled plastic bottle’ message to highlight the green credentials of the bottles to consumers.
Throughout the trial period, consumers will be invited to give their feedback on the launch of the bottle, in order to gauge the popularity of a 100% recycled plastic bottle with the public.
Highland Spring chief executive Les Montgomery said: “Our commitment to the environment starts with the UK’s leading brand, Highland Spring. That’s why we’ve announced the trial of a first-in-category eco bottle made from 100% recycled plastic that’s 100% recyclable too.
“Plastic is a valuable resource that shouldn’t be treated as waste and we encourage everyone to get involved in this trial.
“Tell us what you think of the eco bottle and then recycle it afterwards to help keep the circle of recycled plastics going.
“This is a significant step that is part of a longer-term roadmap to eliminating plastic waste as more and more consumers recycle their plastic bottles and we can source recycled plastic in the quantities and quality we need.”
