The new beer, which has an ABV of 6%, was named the top product at the recent Belfast Beer and Cider Festival, an event organised by the local branch of the Campaign for Real Ale.
Hoppelhammer, an Indian Pale Ale, is being supplied by Whitewater, a winner in this year’s UK Great Taste Awards, initially in 500ml bottles.
“It’s the latest in the portfolio of speciality ales and beers that we are brewing for different seasons,” said Bernard Sloan, Whitewater’s founder and MD. “It’s currently the only beer that we’ve produced that’s based on such a large hop content. We see it as a seasonal speciality because consumers tend to favour lighter beers such as our successful Copperhead (ABV 3.6%) in spring and summer.”
