The video, part of FDF’s ongoing ‘Every Last Drop’ Campaign, highlights the importance of reducing the impact of water use along the food supply chain and features the Minister speaking about future water availability, the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) water policy and the importance of responsible water use amongst food and drink companies.
Many food and drink companies are also signed up to the Federation House Commitment under FDF’s Five-fold Environment Ambition, to contribute to an industry-wide target to reduce water use in their operations by 20% by 2020 compared to 2007. A 14.4% reduction in water use has been achieved to date.
Water minister Richard Benyon said: “Water is not the never-ending commodity that some people see it as. Changing weather patterns and an increasing population will have an impact on future water availability for both households and businesses.
“This will inevitably impact on food and drink manufacturers and I commend the FDF for taking the lead and encouraging its members to think seriously about how they use water now and into the future.”
