A UK-based vending machine company has produced an infographic detailing the history of Coca-Cola in 123 facts, to commemorate the soft drink manufacturer’s 123rd anniversary.
Westways Vending, which offers a range of Coca-Cola vending machines and cold drink dispensers, has highlighted such facts as the American company’s $79.2bn brand value, how a single share in Coca-Cola bought in 1919 would be worth $92,500 today, and the curious way in which Coca-Cola-commissioned Swedish-American artist Haddon Sundblom first introduced the modern association between Santa Claus and the colour red.
The company also examined Coca-Cola’s role in 20th century history, including the drink’s role as a wartime pick-me-up for fighting soldiers and Sigmund Freud’s love of Coca-Cola, which he claimed cured him of depression and increased his libido.
In terms of packaging, Coca-Cola uses 300,000 tons of aluminium for its cans as part of its US operation alone, while nearly 17.5% of the country’s output of aluminium is used in canning the soft drink.
On average, Mexicans drink 665 servings of Coca-Cola products every year – more than the average British, American, Indian and Chinese consumer – while the company’s bottling partner in the greater Mexico City area produces more Coca-Cola than any other. In Brazil, a local bottler makes three-day trips up the Amazon river to deliver Coca-Cola products to remote locations.
Westways Vending has also showcased some of the more unusual and less well known applications for the sparkling beverage – from a paint stripper to a domestic cleaning agent – as it seeks to drive awareness of its soft drinks vending portfolio and commemorate Coca-Cola’s 123rd year in operation.
