An Israeli nutrition company has launched a new protein shake mix for children, called Healthy Height, which it claims will aid with their development.
Nutritional Growth Solutions, which is based in Tel Aviv, is aiming to bring the product to European consumers having developed it in their home market. Available in two flavours – vanilla and chocolate – the shake mix is backed by clinical research that suggests it can help young children grow taller.
It contains 12g of high-quality bone- and muscle-building whey protein in each serving, and is fortified with vitamins and minerals. Free from hormones and any artificial colours or flavours, the shake mix is a good source of amino acids that are key to growth, Nutritional Growth Solutions has claimed.
Company co-founder Prof Moshe Phillip said: “For years, we watched parents struggle to find and administer treatments to help their kids, who were healthy but short, grow taller. Some parents resort to human growth hormone (HGH) therapy, which may help some children with diagnosed disorders. However many children in Europe are not eligible for growth hormone therapy.”
Liron Fendell, Nutritional Growth Solutions’ CEO, continued: “We decided to address this gap in the nutrition market and developed Healthy Height, a nutritious and delicious formulation designed especially for kids. We conducted clinical research to see how this supplement plays a role in height gain. The findings showed that providing short and lean young children with the right nutrients in specific doses helped increase their growth rate within six months with no increase in BMI.”
Fendell and Phillip point to the randomised, double-blind and placebo-controlled study, published in the Journal of Pediatrics, which appears to confirm the efficacy of the formula.
The research evaluated the impact of Healthy Height on infant development by assessing 200 healthy children, all between the ages of three and nine with middle-class backgrounds and normal height and weight, below the tenth percentile.
Healthy Height currently sells in the US, Asia-Pacific and Israel, with GMP-certified production facilities in the US, Germany and Israel. The product has patent applications pending in the US, Canada, Australia, Israel, India and the EU.
“With Healthy Height, parents have new hope for improving their children’s height,” Fendell said. “With a simple scoop-shake-drink, kids have a refreshing smoothie to satisfy their picky palates before school, as an afternoon snack or with dinner, while helping them get the nutrients they need to fuel their growth.”
