Kerrygold has surprised Londoners by commissioning a 10m squared cake incarnation of a traditional Irish meadow, weighing more than half a tonne.
The cake is the creation of renowned sugar artist Michelle Wibowo and took more than 168 hours to craft, is capable of feeding up to 3,000 hungry passers-by, and used 30kg of the brand’s butter to make. The elaborate publicity stunt was laid on at Finsbury Avenue Square yesterday and the design – featuring all the details of an Irish meadow, including a cottage, barn, trees, a group of cows, rice crispie hay bales and even a pond made out of jelly – was chosen to emphasise Kerrygold’s Irish heritage.
The brand is owned by Ornua, which was previously known as The Irish Dairy Board until its rebranding earlier this year.
Artist Michaelle Wibowo said: “I really, really enjoyed making this [cake], especially all the details – on the cows, on the trees. I just love it.”
