Kopparberg has announced plans to launch its “stubbornly Swedish beer” brand Fagerhult in the UK this spring.
Fagerhult was previously only available in Sweden, where it retails alongside the tagline “strong beer”. Made using the finest barley, malt, yeast, hops and water, the 4.8% alcohol by volume beer has now been made available in Tesco stores across the UK, with wholesalers and distributors being added to its portfolio of stockists from May.
Packaged in “stubby” 330ml gold and black cans, emblazoned with an elk’s head, the brand “is deeply rooted in Sweden’s history after originally being brewed to satisfy the thirst of Swedish elk hunters returning from the hunt,” Kopparberg said.
It is made is in the same small-town brewery as Kopparberg’s range of ciders, and features “a fresh and clean malty taste”.
Its introduction was announced on Vine, which the Sweden-based brewer claimed was a world first for a beer product on the video sharing platform.
Kopparberg brand manager Jodie Alliss said: “Fagerhult stubbornly delivers on style and taste every time and will appeal to beer lovers who want a quality ‘no frills’ brew. Fagerhult also promises to diversify the world beer scene in the UK – we all know and love canned craft beer from the US and the UK – now it’s time for the Swedes to enter the fray.”
