Lantmännen Unibake has signed an agreement to acquire Australian pastry manufacturer Bakery Du Jour as it seeks to expand its global footprint.
Family-owned Bakery Du Jour was founded more than 20 years ago and is a supplier of pastry products to Australian retailers and foodservice customers. It employs around 90 people and is located in Melbourne.
The firm said it uses traditional European techniques in the preparation of its croissants, Danish and French pastries.
Since 2006, Denmark-headquartered Lantmännen Unibake has been exporting pastry products to the Australian market.
Lantmännen Unibake CEO Werner Devinck said: “Bakery Du Jour has a strong, customer-focused company culture with highly engaged people, an attractive market position as well as business model.”
Bakery Du Jour owner Fernando Gaspar added: “In order to grow Bakery Du Jour further and realise its full potential, we have been looking for a strong business partner with the necessary skills, experience and industry experience. With Lantmännen Unibake we have found that.”
Lantmännen Unibake operates 35 bakeries around the world and has sales in more than 60 countries. Its brand portfolio includes Hatting, Schulstad, Schulstad Bakery Solutions, Schulstad Royal Danish Pastry, Bonjour.
Earlier this year, Lantmännen Unibake UK announced an investment of £4.4 million into its Milton Keynes factory, as part of ongoing growth plans.
