A specific focus of these activities will be on functional ingredients used in the areas of skin care and healthy nutrition.
“Research and development is the foundation of our innovative strength and the basis for our accelerated growth,” said Dr Heinz-Jürgen Bertram, CEO of Symrise AG. “For many years, Symrise has invested heavily in the research of innovative fragrances, flavours and functional ingredients, as well as into the development of environmentally friendly technologies and new process techniques. We are delighted that the European Investment Bank is supporting us in this area as a financing partner with a long-term perspective.
“This recognises our activities and gives us an incentive to continue along our high standards of innovation, quality and consumer awareness.”
Symrise’s research and development work will also continue to place an emphasis on the accelerated development of functional ingredients, which will be offered by the Life Essentials and Consumer Health business units.
The market segments for care products and food with additional benefits have been growing at an above-average rate for a number of years due to the increased consumer awareness for ‘a balanced way of life’.
In Fiscal Year 2012, Symrise AG employed more than 1,100 people in research and development alone. The company’s new research and development facility will commence operations at the Holzminden site in April.
The activities of the Scent & Care and Flavor & Nutrition divisions will be combined here, promoting interdisciplinary scientific discussions.
