Edge Outreach is an international nonprofit organisation that delivers training and equipment for safe drinking water to nearly 400,000 people each year.
Luvata’s donation of copper tube hairpins, which are often used in the manufacture of heat exchangers, will be used to manufacture 500 of Edge’s water purification systems that can each sanitise up to 10,000 gallons (38,000 litres) of water per day.
The process uses a handful of salt and a 12-volt battery to produce chlorine gas, which is then pumped into contaminated water. It eliminates more than 99.9% of the bacteria and parasites that claim the lives of 3.6 million people each year, according to the company.
Kurtis Daniels, director of training and field operations with Edge Outreach, said: “We previously purchased raw tubing in 20’ lengths, which then required skilled labour and special equipment to cut, solder and manufacture the heat exchanger, a critical piece in the manufacture of Edge’s water purification system.
“Luvata’s donation saves us weeks worth of work and headaches sourcing the raw materials and manufacturing this piece ourselves.”
“With over a billion people worldwide still lacking access to reliable supplies of clean water, we appreciate Luvata’s donation to our efforts,” said Daniels.
“Edge’s primary goal is to prevent sickness and death from waterborne disease and every partnership we form is helping us to improve water quality in communities around the world.”
