Mondias Natural Products, which specialises in the development of natural health products, has agreed to acquire plant-based water start-up Érablier, marking its entry into the functional beverages market.
The deal, which was valued at CAD 1 million ($690,572), includes all assets of Érablier.
Based in Québec, Canada, Érablier has developed a product made from the organic, and pure processed water obtained from sugar maple tree sap.
With the acquisition, Mondias will expand its portfolio and further deliver on its aim to offer consumers healthy and nutritious experiences.
According to a Fact.MR report, the demand for maple water has grown to exceed 16 million litres in 2018 and consumers who drink maple water may enjoy the same experience as seen with coconut water.
“Érablier offers distinctive products that deliver the great taste and natural ingredients consumers are looking for,” said Mondias CEO Dr Patrick Frankham.
“The opportunity to acquire a unique ready-to-market beverage with natural ingredients, from the largest source of plant-based water in North America is a great entry into the competitive functional beverages market.”
As part of the agreement, Lino Fleury will join Mondias as brand director for Érablier. Fleury has extensive experience in the functional beverages market and is the founder of Slow Cow, a natural relaxation beverage.
Frankham added: “The addition of Mr Fleury to our team with his prior experience with the successful launch of Slow Cow, is an important milestone in building the functional beverage franchise for our company.”
Mondias specialises in the commercialisation and development of botanical products for the healthcare, bio-agriculture and functional beverages market.
