Alcohol importer Morgenrot has launched a unique collection of sherries from one of Spain’s oldest producers, Bodegas Barón.
The strikingly labelled range includes Micaela Manzanilla (5 years average), Xixarito (8 years average) and Soluqua (12 years average) varieties. The wines are produced in San Lucar, north of Cadiz, in southern Spain.
Manchester-based importer Morgenrot claimed that the rise in popularity of tapas and sherry’s resurgence as a drink of choice among young consumers meant that the Bodegas Barón range’s introduction to the UK couldn’t be timelier. The company exhibited the sherries at the London Wine Fair last month.
Morgenrot commercial director John Critchley said: “The leaner styles of sherry have been enjoying a comeback in the last decade and are finally starting to ditch old fashioned associations. The focus on dry white wines from all over the world has got people looking for something new – and in this case, old. Restaurants are giving the drink its pride of place, a raft of sherry bars are succeeding and the style is attracting new younger consumers so it’s definitely a category to watch. We’ve had our eye out for a while and are delighted to have got the brand we wanted. Bodegas Barón really are the full package – steeped in heritage, unbelievable quality and sublime packaging to attract everyone from Sherry aficionado to East London hipster.”
