The ban was introduced amid health fears surrounding high caffeine intake among children and is being trialled in stores across Glasgow, Dorset, Leeds, Cheshire, Staffordshire and Suffolk with a view to a wider rollout in the future.
Morrisons’ latest beverage restrictions apply to soft drinks with more than 150mg of caffeine per litre and affect Red Bull, Monster and Relentless drinks, all of which contain more than double that amount.
Following Morrisons’ drink ban, Sainsbury’s and Tesco have stated that they have no plans to impose similar restrictions.
