Mount Gay launches new Master Blender Collection rum line

Rémy Cointreau’s Mount Gay rum brand has launched the first rum in its new Master Blender Collection product line.

XO The Peat Smoke Expression is a limited-edition rum which has been finished in peated whiskey casks, creating a blend which combines the banana aroma of Mount Gay XO with salty and smoky notes.

The rum was matured for 8 to 15 years in American oak barrels and then finished in the peated casks for an additional six months to create the new 57% ABV drink.

6,150 750ml bottles of the limited-edition blend will be available, and each bottle features vintage-style labels and is individually numbered.

Mount Gay master blender Allen Smith said: “For this limited edition blend, I have worked to capture the perfect balance of elegant rum overtones and mellow, peated whisky undertones.

“This one-of-a-kind blend is sure to please the most discerning of palates with its unconventional character, freshness and aromatic complexity.”

Bottles of XO The Peat Smoke Expression will be available from selected retailers worldwide, and will have a suggested retail price of $250 per bottle.
