Nestlé USA’s corporate headquarters has been moved from California to Arlington, Virginia.
Nestlé USA has opened its new headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, in a move it hopes will “transform the business” in the country.
Originally announced in January 2017, the move sees the world’s largest food and drinks company relocate its US corporate offices from California, bringing around 750 jobs to Virginia.
The new location in the Rosslyn neighbourhood is home to Nestlé USA’s corporate functions, its beverage, baking and global foods divisions, as well as its e-business team and centre for marketing excellence.
Gerber Products Company, Nestlé USA’s sister company, will relocate to the same building next year, bringing the total number of Nestlé employees there to around 900.
Nestlé said the relocation “marks a significant milestone in the 152-year history of the company” as it aims to transform its business to be fit for the future.
Steve Presley, who was appointed CEO of Nestlé USA earlier this year, said: “Moving our headquarters across the country is a true catalyst for transforming our business as we create a new Nestlé.
“Today is about more than our building, it’s also about our biggest asset: our people. We’re celebrating our drive to create a culture that embraces the speed, courage, agility and collaboration necessary to win in the marketplace. And relocating here to Arlington helps to fuel that drive.”
Earlier this year Nestlé offloaded its US confectionery unit – including brands such as Butterfinger and Nerds – to Ferrero for $2.8 billion.
Nestlé has been under increasing pressure to boost performance after activist investor Third Point said the company has a “muddled strategic approach”.
However, the firm said its enhanced growth strategy focuses on strengthening its base brands, using new innovation models to launch new foods quickly, and making strategic acquisitions in high-growth categories.
With $9.7 billion in 2017 sales, Nestlé USA is the largest of eight US operating companies as part of Nestlé Group. It includes brands such as Lean Cuisine, DiGiorno pizza, Stouffer’s and Nescafé across baking and global foods, beverage, foods, and ice cream divisions.
