In comparison with previous years, there’s an obvious increase in the number of companies offering botanical extracts and more in the way of weight management products.
Visitors from all over the world underline the need for the next two Vitafoods shows, one in Hong Kong later this year and, just announced, a Vitafoods South Americas show next spring to be held in Sao Paulo.
One of the application samples on the Frutarom stand was a rebalancing drink targeting professionals suffering from symptoms of jetlag, containing lemon balm, Neuravena, schisandra, Fenulife, ginger, blackcurrant and red vine leaf. They also had soft jetlag candies to relieve tired eyes and to help rebuild resistance.
Shake & Freeze is an ice cream adapted to a high protein and low calorie weight loss diet from PYC Laboratoire. One sachet of powder (to be added to water and shaken) provides 15g proteins, 50% less fat and 50% less carbohydrate than mainstream ice cream, and fewer calories.
The company also offers what it calls a ‘drainer stick’ offering diuretic properties to remove extra water from the body using ash tree extract, cherry stalk, cider vinegar, cactus fruit and meadowsweet to aid slimmers.
Another range of slimming products, Snell from Erba Vita is entitled ‘Slim by nature’, offers personalised slimming treatments in the form of sachets with an active dispensing cap to be diluted at point of consumption. These include a detox variant, a satiety variant to deal with hunger pangs, those that limit absorption of fat or carbohydrates and a combined action version.
Similarly, DrenaFast from Biocol of Portugal promises a flat belly effect with a drink in peach, mango and new ginger, lemon and l-carnitine. I spoke with Gil Davide who explained how it’s most popular in Poland and across the board with women, but men in Portugal and Spain have also shown substantial interest.
Chr Hansen were also showcasing their BB 12 plus fibre concept against constipation and were a finalist in the NBT awards being awarded last evening.
Finally, there were a number of nutritional supplements making life with supplements fun for kids such as Nactalia Kids – a fruity, milky drink offering a high protein drink to reassure mums of picky eaters that their little ones are received ample nutrition.
Botanical Products international of Austria was showcasing the coffee fruit (Coffea Arabica), which is packed with antioxidants and also offers high fibre and protein. Available in powder and liquid form for use in beverages.
